Arrival of the first turbines at the North Kyle Wind Farm Development

I was delighted to be in Dalmellington at the Brockwell Energy Office this morning to mark the arrival of the first turbines at the North Kyle Wind Farm Development, which sits between Dalmellington and New Cumnock.

The installation of these turbines marks a significant milestone in the delivery of the lasting legacy of wind farm community benefit for the former coal mining communities in East Ayrshire. It will also continue to provide a welcome boost for local groups and projects as well as strategic investment to enhance the area as a great place to live, work, play and visit.

I joined other elected Council Members, local MP's, a MSP and the Chair of the 9CC Group to recognise the pro-active and pioneering approach the windfarm developers Brockwell Energy have taken towards delivering community benefit. As leading advocates, their £800k advance funding of The 9CC Group - who act for the 9 Local Communities which is an industry first.

We also all took a visit to the sites of the 'New' Turbines to see the progress so far.

The 9CC Group is a charitable trust acting in a local, democratic and transparent manner to manage and distribute community benefit to improve the lives of residents and communities by investing in their economic, social and environmental wellbeing.

It is a shining example of the value of empowerment where local democratic decisions are made on funding and also how Communities can unite to create a lasting legacy and build a better place to live, work, play and visit.
