At the Full Council meeting on Thursday (15/12/22) the SNP and Labour groups with some Independent Councillors all FAILED to support residents in Cumnock, Mauchline and the surrounding area, by kicking the Conservative motion on the creation of a ‘working group’ to support the re-opening of the Stations into the long grass with a wider ranging amendment, however listening to the debate at Full Council it will focus on the Fairy-tale proposal of a Mauchline by-pass and travel by Bus and Car.
They failed to see the larger picture for commuters traveling from the Towns to Glasgow, currently the travel time to the City from Cumnock by Car is up to 1hr 20 minutes depending on traffic and can be up to 2hr 24 minutes on the Bus (including a long change in Kilmarnock)!
In comparison traveling to Glasgow from Cumnock by Train would take just 50 minutes! By failing to support our motion the SNP and Labour proved that they are pro-car and anti-environment.
Rail provision in Cumnock, Mauchline and the surrounding areas is totally unacceptable when the Station of Auchinleck which serves such a massive area only provides up to 20 Car parking spaces!
In the New Year, the Conservative group will ramp up the Campaign to Get Cumnock and Mauchline back on track and deliver on our election pledges to continue to campaign on this issue.
