Connecting Our Communities: The New East Ayrshire Electric Car Club is Officially Live!

I was absolutely delighted to join my colleague Councillor Alyson Simmons- and fellow Elected Members for the official launch of a fantastic new initiative that is going to make a huge difference to our rural areas: the Community Electric Car Club!

Thanks to an innovative partnership funded by the Ayrshire Growth Deal's Community Renewable Energy (CoRE) project and delivered alongside Coalfield Community Transport, our local communities are getting a major connectivity boost!

Here is what you need to know about this brilliant new scheme:

  •  Affordable & Accessible: You can hire a car for short journeys—whether it's for work, shopping, medical appointments, or leisure—for less than the cost of an average public transport fare!

  •  Where to find them: Vehicles will initially be available at the Townhead Street car park in Cumnock and the Health Centre car park in Dalmellington.

  •  Inclusive Fleet: The fleet features three family-sized cars and a fully wheelchair-accessible vehicle, helping us tackle social isolation and support all of our residents.

  •  Greener Travel: This scheme gives everyone a chance to experience EV technology first-hand while supporting East Ayrshire's journey to net zero!

This is a massive win for our outlying communities where public transport can sometimes be a challenge. It opens up new doors for employment, education, and essential services while keeping travel costs low for local families on the move.
