The Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that the Scottish Government’s proposed independence referendum bill would not be lawful.
Yesterday (23/11/22), the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Scottish Government’s referendum bill would not be lawful as it would require consensus between the UK and Scottish Governments.
Nicola Sturgeon decided to take this case to the Supreme Court at the cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds to the Scottish taxpayer and this ruling, which was the expected result, confirms that this was a waste of time and money.
Just eight years ago, we voted on a record turnout to secure Scotland’s place in the UK and all polling has shown that a majority of Scots do not want a re-run of that vote on Nicola Sturgeon’s timetable.
Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP Government should now abandon their referendum obsession and focus on Scotland's real priorities like helping families through the cost-of-living crisis.
