Delivering Civic Pride in East Ayrshire!
At Yesterday's East Ayrshire Full Council Meeting, the East Ayrshire Conservatives group and I were proud to fully support the Delivering 'Civic Pride' Report!
This report perfectly aligns with the group’s "Basics First" approach to local services. We firmly believe that your council tax should focus heavily on core essential services like: keeping our streets clean, tackling environmental crime, and maintaining public spaces.
Here is what the group and myself backed to boost our Waste Management and Cleaner Community services:
More Recycling Slots: Cutting booking times from 20 to 10 minutes at Western Road, Kilmarnock, creating 32,864 extra slots annually!
New Street Bins: Replacing 500 worn-out bins and adding 200 brand-new ones across East Ayrshire.
Tougher Enforcement: Continued use of re-deployable CCTV cameras to catch and fine persistent litterers and fly-tippers.
Frontline Investment: Funding approved for 19 additional staff members and 6 new service vehicles.
Seven-Day Service: Progressing plans to consult on a 7-day operating model to keep our areas clean all week long.
Pushing for a Rapid Response Team...
To take things a step further, I moved a formal amendment to include the scope for a dedicated 'Rapid Response Team'. This team would have been on standby to instantly target sudden fly-tipping hot spots and litter emergencies.
Regrettably, this ambitious upgrade was rejected by the Labour Group, the SNP Administration, and the Independent Councillors.
While the group and myself are disappointed they voted down to investigate this extra layer of community protection, we remain entirely committed to pushing for the highest standards.
Despite that setback, the overall report is a massive win for our local environment!
Our frontline staff in Cleaner and Greener Communities do a fantastic job, and these new resources will help restore true civic pride to East Ayrshire.
