The SNP’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill was rushed through parliament yesterday, thanks to support from Labour. The law change could see children as young as 16 legally change gender and allow sex offenders to change gender too.
Women’s organisations have been clear from the start that they do not think this Bill adequately protects the rights of women and girls so it is incredibly disappointing to see Labour team up with the SNP to pass this Bill. Labour are increasingly opposition in name only to the SNP.
The Scottish Conservatives allowed a free vote on this legislation which saw the vast majority of our MSPs vote against the SNP’s Bill and it is regretful that more MSPs from Labour and other parties didn’t do the same.
